NORTHERN LIGHTS FROM 14th TO 23rd OF MARCH

The Northern Lights is the most spectacular show on Earth and you can see it live in Iceland. The Northern Lights or the Aurora Borealis is a beautiful phenomenon and Iceland is one of the best places on earth to witness those mysterious lights dance across the sky in the wintertime. Best months to experience the Northern Lights are October through April every year. Every night in this tour we´ll chase the Auroras dancing in the sky.


Day 1 the 14th of March.
Arriving in Keflavik, transportation to your Hotel in Reykjavík

Day 2 the 15th of March.
Reykjavík – Golden Circle – Hella

After breakfast we will start the trip with the “Golden Circle” which includes; Thingvellir, Gullfoss and Geysir. Thingvellir is a national park where all major events took place in Iceland from the year 930 until the year 1798. It has also been a protected UNESCO site since 2004. From there we head off to Gullfoss (golden fall), a beautiful waterfall and one of the most spectacular in Iceland. Thereafter we will head to Geysir – hot water spring, Geysir started to erupt in the year 1294 and there close by we will find Strokkur which spews hot water every 5 minutes. In the area of the Volcano Hekla we´ll have a dinner and spend the night. The day is filled with beautiful photographic scenery.

Day 3 the 16th of March.
Hella – Kirkjubæjarklaustur

From Hella we continue to the direction east, we pass the waterfall Seljalandsfoss, a special and photographic waterfall that has a cliff that makes it possible to walk behind the waterfall. Here we will also visit Skogar, folk museum, and the waterfall Skógar. Next on our agenda are the black sand beaches of Vík and the amazing Reynisdrangar, black basalt columns sculptured by the sea. The village Vik has only about 280 habitants and the location of the village church is also quite spectacular. We reach Kirkjubæjarklaustur for overnight staying in a chalet. On this way we will have the opportunity to photograph the Icelandic horse in its winter coat.

Day 4 the 17th of March.
Kirkjubæjarklaustur – Jökulsárlón

We will dedicate this day to the glacier Vatnajökull and its surroundings. We start with exploring the National Park Skaftafell and take a little hike to Svartifoss (black fall). Then onto the glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón, with floating icebergs and seals. Here in the surroundings of glaciers would be ideal scenery of the Northern lights if we are in luck. Dinner and overnight staying in a guesthouse.

Day 5 the 18th of March.
Jökulsárlón – Skálafell – Jökulsárlón

The photographic scenery today is in sculpted glaciers surroundings and glaciers lagoons. Here we will meet a local that that will lead us into less explored lagoons and areas . Here we have the possibility of great panorama pictures in the surroundings of glaciers and ice. Dinner and overnight staying in a guesthouse

Day 6 the 19th of March.
Jökulsárlón – Kirkjubæjarklaustur

In the morning we start our trip back in the direction of Kirkjubæjarklaustur. With the opportunity to stop and take photographs in interesting places on the way. In Kirkjubæjarklaustur we´ll have dinner and spend the night in a chalet.

Day 7 the 20th of March.
Kirkjubæjarklaustur – Hella

We start the day by visiting the most interesting places around Kirkjubæjarklaustur before we start to head back to Hella for our overnight stay. The road between Kirkjubæjarklaustur and Hella is not only the area of the volcanic action of recently erupted Eyjafjallajökull, but is also filled with photographic scenery of mountains, waterfalls, rivers and beautiful landscapes.

Day 8 the 21st of March.
Hella – Reykjanes – Reykjavík

Our schedule today is to visit the peninsula Reykjanes. On our way we will pass Selfoss and Hveragerði, in Hveragerði there are some greenhouses with vegetables and flowers. There is some geothermal activity in the ground in this area and also in the Peninsula of Reykjanes. In Reykjanes we will visit Kleifarvatn, Krísuvík and the Blue Lagoon. After shooting some photos in these great surroundings it is optional to take a relaxing bath in the Blue Lagoon. Dinner and overnight staying in Reykjavík.

Day 9 the 22nd of March.
Reykjavík

The day is dedicated to the city of Reykjavík at your leisure. Places to visit: Hallgrímskirkja the largest church in Iceland go to the top and enjoy the view over the city, the city hall (Ráðhús Reykjavik), the pond, Laugavegur the main shopping street, or just visit one of the museums and enjoy the atmosphere in this colourful northernmost capital of the world.

Day 10 the 23rd of March.
Reykjavík – Keflavík Airport
